How does Invisalign straighten teeth?
Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that gradually shift your teeth over a period of months or years. Your aligners straighten your teeth using carefully calibrated forces. Each aligner straightens your teeth just a little more than the previous one did, and together, they slowly move your teeth into their new, corrected positions.
Each of your aligners will move your teeth approximately 0.25 mm (but this number can vary significantly).
Every two weeks, you will switch to a new set of aligners, slowly moving your teeth into their straightened positions.
The total number of aligners in your series will determine the cost of your treatment, and will depend on the nature and extent of your misalignment. Before beginning treatment, your dentist will evaluate your smile, and give you an estimate for how long your treatment will likely take.
What is the Invisalign treatment process like?
You will start the process with an Invisalign consultation. Your dentist will examine your teeth to determine if Invisalign is the right orthodontic treatment option for you.
If it is, your dentist will develop a personalized treatment plan to address your specific requirements.
Your dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth, based on which your new, custom aligners will be made.
Once treatment begins, you will wear your aligners full time – no less than 22 hours a day – and take them out only to eat, drink, and to brush and floss your teeth. Every other week or so, you will switch to a new set of aligners.
During treatment, you will visit your dentist periodically, so that they can monitor your progress and make adjustments to your treatment as required. At the end of treatment, you will have a straighter, healthier smile!
