What is Gum Disease?
Gum (periodontal) disease is an infection of the tissues which support the teeth. Periodontitis is often the result of poor oral hygiene habits leading to a buildup of plaque on the teeth which is able to harden and eventually affect the gums.
If gum disease is left untreated, it can lead to a variety of oral health issues including inflamed and bleeding gums, a receding gum line, bacteria-filled pockets between the teeth and gums, and eventual bone loss.

Gum Disease Therapy
The right periodontal treatment method for you will depend upon the severity of the disease. Our dentists offer surgical gum therapy as a treatment option for severe gum disease that cannot be corrected with less invasive methods.
Once your periodontal treatment has been completed, our dental team recommends regular dental examinations and preventive therapy - particularly during the first 12 months - to keep the condition from recurring.
Placing Dental Implants
Periodontics can also include the placement of dental implants beneath the gum line as part of the process to replace missing teeth.
Following the placement of dental implants, the gums are given time to heal properly then and a tooth replacement is added. This procedure can provide a number of oral health benefits to patients with missing teeth.
